Being disabled is a struggle. In most cases, you can struggle to find and hold down a job due to inaccessibility. Some of us have to build a small biz from the ground up.

Most creators have their day jobs as well as YouTube, twitch, etc. When they build a stable revenue source, then they become full-time creators. I won’t be able to hold down a job long enough for content creation to take off, so I have to start from the bottom full-time. I did with YouTube before they moved the goalpost to be monetized.

Then on my crypto-currency blog platforms, dealing with my posts flopping, barely being seen by anyone, and desperately trying to get more views. Getting pennies per post.

No job will accommodate needing time off for appointments or flares. My flares are unpredictable.

I can’t speak for everyone since we’re all different. I had to start from the ground back when YouTube let everyone monetize before they added requirements because no jobs were autism-friendly.

Before my chronic illnesses kicked in, I blogged about how autism is a barrier to employment. I struggled to get my mom to understand every time she kept pushing me to get a job.

This is why streaming, music, etc is a job that is more flexible than a 9-5.

Getting started is the hard part. I’ve been trying to start my Kofi since 2021 and I struggle to get supporters.

This is why, it’s possible, that most creators depend on monetization with ads. If someone doesn’t have money to join your Patreon, watching a quick ad is free support. It was free, didn’t cost you a penny and it took 20 seconds. As long as you don’t overdo it with the ads.

I believe this is why small creators rely on ads. Not because they think its fast money, it’s a way to support each other for free.

Facebook has a program where you can monetize your reels. You will get a banner ad or a quick ad when the content is done.

I started blogging about autism back in 2018 when my mom kept pressuring me to get a job. I need a specific job that meets my needs when I can take time off due to burnout etc. The jobs my mom was pressuring me to get, which is retail, aren’t for me. I would not be able to handle it. Autistic people should be able to go for jobs they fit and not have jobs forced on them. If you wanna pressure let’s say, fashion, then line them up with jobs to pursue fashion. It’s neurotypical people that’s the problem.
